About Louw
Two and a half decades inside fleet telematics
Louw Venter is Managing Director of Ctrack Australia & New Zealand, based at the company’s Macquarie Park office in Sydney. He has spent more than 25 years in vehicle tracking and fleet telematics — first in South Africa, then across Australia and New Zealand — building and leading the operations, projects and commercial teams behind telematics businesses in both regions.
His career in the industry began at Ctrack in Pretoria in 2001, where he ran customer support and head-office business units as Operations Manager. He moved to Johannesburg in 2003 to manage the group’s largest branch along with a portfolio of strategic accounts, then returned to head office as Projects Director, leading the projects division. In 2013 he took on the Strategic Accounts Director role at Ctrack Fleet Management in South Africa, overseeing strategic accounts and the operations attached to them.
Louw moved to Australia in late 2015 as Operations Director for Ctrack ANZ. He went on to hold managing director roles at DigiCore Australia in Melbourne and Netstar Australia in Sydney, and served as a Director at INFONEXUS, before returning to Ctrack in April 2025 to lead the Australian and New Zealand business. Before entering telematics, he served nine years as an officer in the South African National Defence Force’s corps of signals. He studied at Damelin.
He writes about the operational side of running a fleet: where fuel and maintenance budgets actually leak, what Australian operators need to be able to evidence under Chain of Responsibility and NHVR heavy vehicle rules, and how telematics data turns assumptions into decisions. A theme runs through most of it — visibility comes before control, and the losses that hurt a fleet usually start as a blind spot rather than a bad decision.
